Description
Acetyl L-Carnitine is the preferred form of Carnitine, an amino acid, for brain and nerve support as the acetyl group enables the molecule to cross the blood-brain barrier more easily and also provides substrate (acetyl groups) for synthesis of acetylcholine—a primary neurotransmitter in the brain.
Acetyl L-Carnitine helps for converting stored fat into energy, but much less as a “primary benefit” than the regular L-Carnitine does.
Carnitines carry certain fatty acids to the mitochondria to be burned as fuel; in this way Acetyl-L-Carnitine works with the mitochondria, known as the powerhouses of the cells, and helps the body to metabolise fat.
All Carnitines are antioxidants and work in different, but related, ways, some are closely connected to cardiac health, some to metabolism and others to neurological health.
It is produced in the liver and kidneys, then stored in the skeletal muscles, heart and brain.
