Forskolin

Description

Forskolin is widely-known as a natural activator, controller and regulator of adenylate cyclase (an enzyme related to multiple beneficial lipid metabolism and glycogen functions) which is an important enzyme that stimulates production of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP).

Cyclic-AMP is closely tied with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which has been shown to:

reduce inflammation
reduce blood pressure
anti-glaucoma
positive inotropic action in the heart
prevents platelet aggregation
bronchodilation/lung health

The root of the Coleus is often used for various medicinal purposes and is now grown all around the world as an ornamental plant.

It is believed to have been used many years ago as a medical herb in the treatment of heart and lung diseases, intestinal spasms, asthma, insomnia and convulsions.

Coleus herb contains a chemical called Forskolin which activates the enzyme andenylate cyclase. Andenylate cyclase compound initiates a myriad of critical events and processes within all the cells of the human body. A number of important hormone processes are activated by chemicals directly associated with Adenylate Cyclase

Forskolin causes stimulation that supposedly leads to blood vessel dilation and improves the forcefulness with which the heart pumps blood, increased secretion of thyroid hormone and inhibition of allergic reactions. It is also thought to have other uses including inhibition of the pro-inflammatory substance known as platelet-activating and inhibition of the spread of cancer cells.
