Glutamine

Description

Glutamine (L) is an important glycogenic amino acid and it is essential for helping to maintain normal and steady blood sugar levels.

It also assists muscle strength and endurance, and is essential to gastrointestinal function, providing energy to the small intestines with the intestines being the only organ in the body that uses Glutamine as its primary source of energy and is found in higher concentrations in the blood than any of the other amino acids.

It is a precursor to the neurotransmitter amino acid Glutamate (Glutamic Acid), and is intrinsically involved in DNA synthesis.

Technically Glutamine is not an ‘essential amino acid’ but most body builders and professional athletes consider it an essential component of their strength and muscle building supplement plan which tends to be the primary use as a food supplement.
